The Olympics are considered the most important multidisciplinary international sporting event in the world, in which athletes from various countries participate with more than 200 participating nations. There are two categories: Summer Olympic Games and Winter Olympic Games that are held with an interval of two years. The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games took place from July 23 to August 8, 2021 in Tokyo, Japan at the Tokyo Olympic Stadium. The decision to postpone the Olympics Until summer 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic it was taken jointly by the Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, and the president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach. For this reason, the games were called Tokyo 2020 even though the date of the event will be held in 2021.The current state of emergency remained in effect during the event and Foreign visitors were banned from entering the country to slow the spread of COVID-19 and prevent another wave of coronavirus. Despite this limitation, the government of Japan allowed foreign sponsors and foreign Olympic committees to attend the Olympic Games in person.

The 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo and the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo were the first Olympic games to be held in Asia. Tokio is hosted by fourth time of this world-famous event. The 2020 Paralympic Games will begin on August 24 and end on September 5, 2021. They will generally be held 540 events in dozens of different sports.
The Olympic venues were located in two main zones: The Heritage Zone (1964 Olympic Games area) and the Bay Area (newly built areas). In total, 43 venues were used. The new national stadium served as the main stadium, all track and field events and opening and closing ceremonies took place in it.
In these games, all the Olympic sports from the previous edition Rio de Janeiro 2016 were kept. On August 5, five sports were added: baseball in women's mode, karate and national olympic committees (surfing, skateboarding and climbing).
The IOC International Olympic Committee included the following unofficial medal table on its website for the first time, This committee is prohibited from establishing any general classification by countries since the Olympic Charter establishes that the Olympic Games are not competitions between countries but between athletes.
