The construction of the Riviera Maya's first racetrack for Formula One is expected to begin in February 2022. This event will take place in Cancun,
Quintana Roo and Puerto Aventuras will be the venue where not only will be able to attend the celebration of the maximum category of motor racing, but
there will also be 18-hole golf courses, two five-diamond hotels, a racetrack and enough space to hold festivals, concerts and other cultural events.
This new racetrack will have a nine-kilometer long track, in an area of 500 hectares, with a capacity for 130,000 people. According to the words of Grupo Constructor Cancun, it could be at the same level or even above circuits such as Yas Marina in the Arab Emirates.
The investment of this project amounts to 3.7 billion pesos and its construction is expected to be completed by 2025. The federal government is considering linking this new racetrack within the portfolio of strategic projects linked to the Mayan Train called "Cancun 2050".
The "Cancun 2050" project includes the Cancun Airport Terminal, a macro-project for housing and entertainment, a convention center, exhibitions, concerts and other associated social uses.
So far this project has not completed the procedures to obtain construction permits and no study has been approved to determine the environmental impact in the area, although according to Andrés Manuel López Obrados "The only thing that can stop us is another pandemic".
The new racetrack will be the third largest project in the Riviera Maya, after the Tulum airport and the Mayan Train, and one of the largest in the country after the Felipe Angeles International Airport.
